Hernandez was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

The 24-year-old backstop is hitting .279/.302/.462 with 10 home runs, 60 strikeouts and 10 walks in 74 games at Triple-A. Boston just traded away Christian Vazquez and traded for Reese McGuire, so Hernandez may only be up as a short-term backup behind Kevin Plawecki as they wait for McGuire to join the team.

McGuire was traded to the Red Sox from the White Sox on Monday in exchange for pitcher Jake Diekman, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

The Red Sox need catching depth after trading long-time backstop Christian Vazquez, and they decided to bring McGuire into the fold. As things stand, expect McGuire and Kevin Plawecki to share the work behind the plate for Boston.

Vazquez was traded to the Astros from the Red Sox on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

It's not yet clear who will head to Boston in the deal, but the Astros will have a new primary catcher the rest of the way.

Alfaro isn't starting Monday against Colorado, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Alfaro has alternated starts behind the dish recently, and he'll take a seat after he went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Sunday. Austin Nola is starting at catcher and batting eighth.

Haase is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins.

Haase appeared to supplant Tucker Barnhart as the Tigers' No. 1 catcher shortly before the All-Star break, but the two may be moving into more of a timeshare at the position. Barnhart will be behind the dish for the second straight game while Haase sits again after he was out of the lineup for Sunday's 4-1 loss to Toronto.

Stephenson will undergo surgery on his broken collarbone, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

It was announced earlier in the day that Stephenson was transferred to the 60-day injured list, and that was simply a precursor to the latest update on his status. It's unclear exactly how long Stephenson will need to recover from the procedure, but he will not be eligible to be activated from the injured list until Sept. 21.

Belt is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers.

Belt rarely starts against left-handed pitchers, so it should come as little surprise that he is sitting out Monday with southpaw Andrew Heaney on the bump for the Dodgers. Darin Ruf will start at first base in Belt's place.

Hosmer (neck) isn't in the lineup Monday against the Rockies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Hosmer was removed from Sunday's game against the Twins due to a neck strain and will be out of the lineup for at least one matchup. Whether he's available off the bench remains to be seen, but Wil Myers will start at first base while Nomar Mazara starts in right field.

Jones was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land Monday.

Jones will take the roster spot of Alex Bregman, who was placed on the paternity list in the corresponding move. Bregman will be away from the team for 1-to-3 days, so Jones' latest stint with the big club does not figure to be a long one.

Aguilar isn't in the lineup Monday against the Reds.

Aguilar started the last five games and went 3-for-19 with a homer, a double, four RBI, a walk and four strikeouts. Lewin Diaz will take over at first base and bat third Monday.

Miller (forearm) is starting Monday against the Diamondbacks.

Miller was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to a forearm bruise, but he'll be back in action a day later. Over his last four games, he's gone 4-for-16 with a double, three runs and two RBI.

Naylor (ankle) is starting Monday against the Diamondbacks.

Naylor was out of the lineup for the last three games due to a sore right ankle, but he'll serve as the designated hitter and bat cleanup Monday. Over his eight games since the All-Star break, he's hit .344 with a homer, four doubles, six RBI, four runs and a stolen base.

Trejo was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday.

Trejo spent the bulk of the last three months at the Triple-A level, but he will rejoin the big club and take the roster spot of Kris Bryant (foot), who landed on the injured list in the corresponding move. Expect Trejo to fill a utility role for the Rockies.

Reynolds was added to the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Reynolds was set to work as a reserve Monday, but he was added to the starting nine in place of Tommy Pham. Reynolds will man left field and hit third in Cincinnati's batting order.

Bowman was traded from the Yankees to the Athletics on Monday along with Ken Waldichuk, JP Sears and Luis Medina in exchange for Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

The lone hitter in the return heading to Oakland, Bowman is an older second baseman from the college ranks who boasts premium speed. The 22-year-old righty hitter has a .217/.343/.355 slash line with eight home runs, 35 steals and a 97:55 K:BB in 80 games at High-A.

Harrison isn't starting Monday against Kansas City.

Harrison started the last four games and went 3-for-13 with a home run, a double, two runs, two RBI and two strikeouts. Leury Garcia will take over at the keystone and bat seventh Monday.

Frazier went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run in an extra-inning loss to the Astros on Sunday.

Frazier did a nice job setting the table out of the top of the order, reaching safely for the seventh straight game in the process. The veteran outfielder's .244/.304/.312 slash line remains very much a work in progress, but Frazier's batting average is now at its highest point since June 7.

Atlanta designated Cano for assignment Monday.

Cano recently lost hold of his role as Atlanta's primary second baseman, and his status as a left-handed hitter with limited defensive utility made him an ill fit in a bench role. As a result, Atlanta opted to replace him with Ehire Adrianza, who was acquired from the Nationals on Monday and is a more traditional fit for a utility role. Given that he's now been let go by three teams this season after slashing a collective .150/.183/.190 with a career-worst 24 percent strikeout rate over 104 plate appearances in the majors, the 39-year-old Cano's prolific run in the big leagues could be over.

Rivera was traded to the Diamondbacks from the Royals on Monday in exchange for pitcher Luke Weaver, John reports.

Rivera posted a .683 OPS over 211 big-league plate appearances this season but also a .908 mark over 85 PA with Triple-A Omaha, so the Diamondbacks decided to pick him up in an effort to shore up their infield depth.

Devers (hamstring) is expected to return to action Tuesday against the Astros, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Devers landed on the injured list in late July, and it appears he will not miss more than the minimum 10 days he was required to sit out.

Riley signed a 10-year, $212 million contract with Atlanta on Monday.

Riley has followed up a stellar 2021 season with an even better campaign, so Atlanta decided to lock him up through 2032 -- and perhaps another year should the team exercise a $20 million club option for 2033. With Riley under contract for a decade, he will man the hot corner and occupy a prominent spot in Atlanta's batting order for years to come.

Bregman was placed on the paternity list Monday.

Bregman was scratched from Monday's lineup in order to be with his wife, and he wound up being excused from the team for the next 1-to-3 days. Taylor Jones was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land to take Bregman's place on the roster.

Nevin isn't in the lineup Monday against the Rangers, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Nevin should see additional playing time for the Orioles after Trey Mancini was dealt to the Astros on Monday, but Nevin will take a seat for Monday's series opener in Texas. Ryan Mountcastle is starting at first base while Terrin Vavra enters the lineup in left field.

Hernandez was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Monday.

Hernandez did not get into a game after being recalled Friday, and he will head back to Triple-A for the time being. He has had a couple stints with the big club this season, and chances are he will get at least one more before the campaign comes to a close.

Witt (hand) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox.

The injury Witt suffered Sunday when he was struck by a pitch is not believed to be serious, and according to manager Mike Matheny it is not even an issue. However, Matheny did note that Witt is getting a day as he works back from the hamstring injury that cost him time in late July. Regardless of the reason, Maikel Garcia will start at shortstop for the Royals on Monday night.

Seager (lower leg) is in the lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles.

It was reported Sunday that Seager could land on the injured list, but he is apparently feeling good enough not only to avoid an IL stint but to return to action one day later. Seager will hit second Monday night, but he will serve as the designated hitter rather than start at shortstop like he usually does.

Baez is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins.

Baez homered Sunday and tallied four hits over his last three games, but he will get a night off after committing two errors in Sunday's contest. Willi Castro will start at shortstop in Baez's place.

Tatis (wrist) could begin a minor-league rehab assignment as early as this weekend, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Tatis is scheduled to take live batting practice Monday, and how his surgically repaired left wrist responds to the activity could dictate whether he's cleared for game action later this week or at some point next week. Since Tatis has been on the shelf since spring training, he'll likely need at least a handful of minor-league games to pick up at-bats and regain his timing at the plate. Even so, a mid-August return from the 60-day injured list is seemingly in play for Tatis if he avoids any setbacks in his buildup program.

Tatis (wrist) is scheduled to take live batting practice Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Tatis was previously spotted taking BP last week, but he looks poised to face higher-level velocity Monday, which will mark another step forward in his recovery from the surgery he underwent in mid-March to repair the scaphoid bone in his left wrist. If Tatis' wrist responds well to Monday's workout, the Padres could begin to outline a minor-league rehab assignment for the 23-year-old, who could be poised to make his 2022 debut with the big club around the middle of August.

Newman went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Sunday's 8-2 loss to the Phillies.

Newman swiped second base after singling in the first inning before doubling and scoring a run in the third. It was his fourth stolen base of the year and third in his last 12 games. In 18 games since returning from the injured list, Newman has gone 23-for-73 (.315) with eight runs scored and nine extra-base hits. He's slashing .289/.338/.421 through 32 games this season.

Garlick left Monday's game against the Tigers with right rib inflammation, Megan Ryan of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Garlick took two at-bats Monday before departing the contest. The extent of his injury is not yet known, so it remains to be seen if he will miss any additional time.

Bryant was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

Bryant was set to start Monday despite dealing with a sore foot, but he was scratched from the lineup and will wind up sidelined for at least nine more days.

Pham was traded to the Red Sox from the Reds on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

It's unclear who the Reds are getting in return for Pham, but he will likely spend the rest of the season in Boston.

Trammell (hamstring) went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run in Triple-A Tacoma's win over El Paso on Sunday.

Trammell led off and filled the designated hitter role before being pinch hit for by Alex Blandino in the ninth inning. The 24-year-old has been sidelined since June 29, so he's likely to log several games with the Rainiers before being deemed ready for activation.

Haniger (ankle) played six innings in right field during Triple-A Tacoma's win over El Paso on Sunday, going 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and two walks.

Haniger skewered Triple-A arms for a second time in the last three games and got in another round of solid work on defense before being lifted for a pinch runner following a walk in his final plate appearance. The veteran outfielder is looking good both at the plate and in the field, seemingly leaving him on track to be activated Friday as previously reported.

Pham was scratched from Monday's lineup, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

The Reds did not disclose a reason for Pham's removal, but according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic he is headed to a new team. Matt Reynolds will replace Pham in Monday's lineup.

Skubal left Monday's game against the Twins with left arm fatigue.

Skubal shined in a third straight start but was lifted after five innings with a sore arm.

Quintana will be traded to the Cardinals, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

The return in the trade is not yet known, but Quintana will part ways with Pittsburgh and pitch for the Cardinals the rest of the way.

Feltner is expected to start one of the two games the Rockies will play against the Padres on Tuesday, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.

Feltner has started seven games for the Rockies this season, and according to the report, he will likely start an eighth contest in the first game of Tuesday's twin bill.

Gray was removed from Monday's game against the Orioles in the second inning with left side discomfort.

Gray's injury does not sound too serious, but it forced him to leave Monday's outing after throwing just 48 pitches. It remains to be seen if he will be available to make what was set to be his second start of the week Saturday.

Hill (knee) was activated from the 15-day injured list Monday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

The Red Sox have confirmed starters for the next few days, and it was reported earlier in the day that Hill would not start for the big club Wednesday as scheduled, so perhaps he is going to work out of the bullpen as a piggyback option for now. He gave up one run on four hits and zero walks while striking out five in three innings in his rehab outing last week.

May (elbow) could make two more rehab starts before returning from the injured list, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

May threw 46 pitches in his last rehab start, so he still has some stamina to build up before being ready for his first big-league appearance of the season. If all goes well in the next couple weeks, May could be activated by the Dodgers at some point in the middle of August.

Widener was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Monday.

The Diamondbacks had an open roster spot after trading fellow pitcher Luke Weaver, so they decided to bring up Widener from the minor-league ranks.

Diekman was traded to the White Sox from the Red Sox on Monday in exchange for catcher Reese McGuire, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Diekman has been fairly reliable this season outside of a few tough outings, but the Red Sox were willing to part with him in order to acquire another option behind the plate. Diekman has five wins and 12 holds this season, but he may not have as many opportunities to make a fantasy impact with his new squad.

Weaver was traded to the Royals from the Diamondbacks on Monday in exchange for third baseman Emmanuel Rivera, John reports.

Weaver has been on a roll since the start of July, being scored upon only once in his last eight appearances out of Arizona's bullpen, so the Royals will see what he can do as a member of their relief ranks. They could also give him another chance to start if they are so inclined.

Schmidt was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.

The Yankees traded for Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino earlier in the day, so they need to clear space on the active roster. Schmidt has a 2.40 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 29 strikeouts in 30 innings across 16 MLB appearances this year.

Castro (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Monday.

Castro is in the midst of a four-week shutdown, and with Monday's move, his absence will extend at least into early September.

Martinez was reinstated from the paternity list Monday.

Martinez spent the weekend with his wife and newborn, but he has rejoined the Padres and will be available out of San Diego's bullpen moving forward. He figures to fill a key role in front of new closer Josh Hader.

Harper had his pins removed from his left thumb Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Harper underwent surgery to repair a fractured left thumb in late June, but he'll be able to begin his ramp-up process now that his pins have been removed. The 29-year-old will likely require a few weeks before he's cleared to return to game action, but it's possible that he'll be able to return sometime in mid-to-late August.

Beer was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Monday.

Beer has played for Reno since being optioned there in mid-May, but he will get another chance at the top level after posting a 1.044 OPS over his last 26 Triple-A contests. Beer will serve as Arizona's designated hitter Monday night and is the favorite to be the primary option at that spot moving forward.

Mancini will be traded to the Astros, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports.

It's not yet known who Houston will send to Baltimore to complete the trade, but Mancini's tenure with the Orioles will come to a close. While he will likely hit lower in the order with Houston, Mancini should continue to play nearly every day between left field, right field, first base and designated hitter.

Moustakas is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins, according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com.

Southpaw Jesus Luzardo will open on the mound for the Marlins, so Moustakas and his .513 OPS against lefties will open the game on the bench. Donovan Solano will enter the lineup in place of Moustakas.

Carpenter isn't starting Monday against the Mariners.

Carpenter has started against just five left-handed pitchers this year and is getting a breather with southpaw Marco Gonzales on the mound for Seattle. Aaron Judge is shifting to right field while Aaron Hicks starts in center.

Vogelbach is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

Left-hander Patrick Corbin will start Monday for the Nationals, so Vogelbach will open on the bench and J.D. Davis will serve as the designated hitter. As things stand, it looks like the two will work in a platoon at that position, with Vogelbach getting the favorable side against right-handed starting pitchers.
